Statement Regarding the Encampment on Campus
We are aware of an encampment set up on the Grad House green on Waterloo’s main campus. The Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) supports the right of all students, faculty, and staff to freely and peacefully assemble, express their views, and make their voices heard.
We will continue to encourage the University to protect students’ right to peaceful protest and maintain a safe space for all students, regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs.
We encourage you to ask questions to learn more about what’s happening both in the Middle East and on university campuses across Canada and the US. It’s important to stay informed, seek out reliable sources, and have meaningful, respectful conversations with your peers. Be compassionate, even when you have differing views or opinions.
WUSA denounces violence and the incitement of hate towards any group, including anti-Palestinian racism, antisemitism, or Islamophobia. We recognize the impact that the on-going war in Israel and Palestine has on the mental well-being of many of our community members. If you are struggling or need support, please reach out to the resources available to you.
WUSA offers support such as Empower Me, where you can find someone to talk to 24/7. You can also reach out to Campus Wellness and Counselling Services or find your community through one of our many student clubs and services.
