The 13 members of the BOD are comprised of the President, 2 Vice Presidents, and 10 at-large directors. All 13 members are elected in the Winter for 12-month terms: Spring through following Winter.

WUSA Annual Plan

WUSA’s 2025-2026 Annual Plan sets out our plans and priorities for the year to come. Like all annual plans, they tie back to the 5-year plan created in 2025.

This year’s annual plan is broken down into Operational Goals, and Advocacy Priorities. Each one will be worked on by the groups specified, or as is necessary to work towards and complete all stated goals and priorities.

Board Meetings

The Board of Directors meets once per month to report on progress on various student advocacy issues and to collectively adopt and review the policies of the corporation.

A diverse group of four people are seated around a table, engaging in a meeting or discussion. One person is speaking while another appears to be confused. The table has various items like a laptop and papers. All individuals are wearing casual attire.

Board Decisions

Below are the decisions Board has passed during this governing year.

In its regular July meeting, the Board approved the 2026-2027 Annual Plan highlighting the operational goals and advocacy priorities for the organization; in adjunction to the 2025-2030 Long-Range Plan.

Operationally, the plan looks to centralize students by uplifting student experience by finding new means of supporting clubs and societies, reviewing student services, and continuing work on the Student Lounge and the Bomber to further student spaces on campus.

Relating to advocacy, the organization will be working to address Affordability, Co-op & Employment, Mental Health & Wellness, and Academics/Quality of Education. As written out by President Samir Sharma, “On advocacy, we’re continuing to push relentlessly for students. This means fighting for proper degree tracking tools and strengthening the rights of undergraduate TAs and RAs.”

To begin work into the governing year, the Board approved its operating budget for 2026-2027. The approval marks a key milestone outlining the Board and organization’s resources and funding to deliver on planned initiatives, organizational goals, and advocacy objectives.

For the 2026-2027 governing year, the Board approved the continued writing of its Environmental Sustainability Position Statement, and the creation of both an Artificial Intelligence Stance and a Quality of Teaching Position Statement.

Such stances and position statements help to outline the research and perspectives that guide and support WUSA’s advocacy work. They are developed and revised by WUSA’s Advocacy Committee and Advocacy Staff, who utilize student-based research and the experience of committee members who are varying student leaders around campus.

In continued work of improving student experience, the Board approved the usage of $70,000 + HST from the Orientation Reserve to help fund the purchase of additional swag items for the upcoming Fall 2026 Orientation.

The Board approved a Fall 2026 term pilot program of WalkSafe: a service providing students with a safe walking companion around campus during the later hours of the day. The initiative will run from Monday – Friday until 10:30pm, in which students can request customizable walks with a trained WalkSafe companion.

The decision comes as an extension of the previous WalkSafe month-long pilot that ran starting in March 2026. The Board approved the usage of $15,000 from the WUSA’s reserves to allow for the program to continue.

President Samir Sharma shared that any continuance of the program past the second trial would require a motion to be voted upon at the next Annual Members’ Meeting.

WUSA’s Board approved the use of $300,000 from the Capital Fund to upgrade the furniture within the Great Hall.

President Samir Sharma shared that the intent was to ensure the new furniture was available starting in the fall term.
