President & VP First Month Recap
A couple months have passed, and I’m sure a lot of us are curious about what our newly elected President and VP of WUSA have been up to! Let’s take a look at the various advocacy, relations and meetings they have been involved in the term so far.
WUSA’S President, Nick Pfeifle, has been personally involved in sustainability efforts, such as participating in a tree-planting event and collaborating with UW’s Sustainability Office, as well as advocacy for finding solutions for food insecurity among students, with a focus on ensuring affordable, accessible, and nutritious food options. Nick has also been attending appointments with various committees to make student representation happen and has met with VPs of several student societies and associations to understand how they operate and discuss ongoing issues. The President has also been quite busy interacting with faculty associations, indigenization and planning, campus wellness, and student senators.
VP, Arya Razmjoo, has been involved in a lot this past month as well – by attending meetings with Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) and gathering crucial information about WUSA’s federal relations and plans for advocacy. Arya is also quite thrilled to share that in his recent meeting with other student leaders to set up Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) for this year, he was elected VP of Finance and Vice Chair of their Board. He explained that at some of the subsequent meetings, OUSA’s Board has set up goals for advocacy around housing, investing in post-secondary education, food insecurity and recommendations for each area.
Both the President and VP have been working with StudentCare to look into expanding students’ insurance to cover gender-affirming health care, as well as reviewing the current plan that is offered to students through WUSA.
Nick and Arya have not only been fulfilling their duties as members of the Board but have shown their fun side to students as well, through their involvement in filming social media content with the Communications team at WUSA!
