Items of Business
Elections Sweepstakes and Voter Incentive Draws
Following the 2026-2027 election, Director Skyler Duggan looked to remove the use of sweepstakes from the electoral process, citing rise in uninformed voters. As the Board discussed the matter it seemed apparent they all shared a disagreement with the use of sweepstakes and looked to change the culture around the electoral process and promote informed voters.
Board recommended that the Elections and Referenda committee work with staff to adapt other promotional strategies that did not include a large prize draw.
Annual Members’ Meeting – Member Motion Notifications
The Board reviewed a motion put forward by Director Rory Norris to maintain compliance with the Ontario Not-For-Profit Corporations Act and the procedural regulations around motion submissions. The motion would require for member submissions to be reviewed within ten business days, in case they did not meet the threshold for proper items that could go to the Annual Members’ Meeting.
Signing Authority Motion
Director Samir Sharma brought forth a motion to amend bylaws with the practice of the organization by amending signing authority requirements. The change would delegate the signature of operational matters to the Executive Director, whereas higher-level matters related to Board’s role as student representatives would remain the authority of two Officers.
