Big Campus Upgrades Coming!

The entrance of a brick building with large windows sits gracefully amid the trees and shrubs under a clear blue sky, reflecting recent campus improvements.

Good news! At their March Board meeting, your WUSA Board of Directors approved some funding to improve campus life at Waterloo. Most of these upgrades focus on revamping the Student Life Centre (SLC), so you’ll have a better place to study, eat, hangout between classes, and relax with friends

What’s In It for You? 🤔

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming:

  • 🏠 SLC Second Floor Upgrades – Expect new furniture, more outlets, and better lighting for a more comfortable space.
  • 🪪 Easier Room Bookings – Eventually students will be able to book rooms online and use your WatCard for access.
  • 🚽 Renovated Washrooms – The SLC washrooms are getting a long-overdue update.
  • ✅ Better Club Spaces – We’re renovating the Clubs Community Centre to better support the 200+ student clubs each term. Plus, we’re adding club lockers!
  • 🪿 Flock Stop Expansion – The only 24/7 store on campus is growing! With more space and product options, it’ll be easier to grab food, drinks, health, and beauty essentials—whenever you need them. The expansion to the physical space will make it more accessible and convenient during peak hours.

Where’s the Money Coming From? 💰

These projects are funded through WUSA’s Capital Program Fund and the SLC Deferred Maintenance Fund, which supports spaces for undergraduate students on campus, including the SLC. The money in this fund comes from a portion of the Capital Program Fee, additional money from the Operating Budget, and interest that is earned on the fund.

Who Decides How It’s Spent? 📋

The fund is used for projects or initiatives approved through our normal budget process, as long as they are aligned with the Capital Improvement Plan.

These upgrades will make your campus life more comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable. Whether you’re interested in better study spaces, easier room bookings, improved club resources, more food offerings, or all the above, your Board is investing in the things that matter. Stay tuned for more updates as these projects start rolling out!
