Update to WUSA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy

At the 2026 Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM), WUSA members voted to update our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy. The WUSA Board of Directors voted at the Regular July Board meeting held on July 16th, 2026, about the next steps.

Over the last 4 months, the Board has finished a deep review of the AMM motion. This included seeking legal advice, collecting cost estimates, talking to peer Student Associations with similar passed motions, and responding to feedback/concerns sent by students. The Board also considered how different implementation strategies would affect all facets of WUSA’s operations, including IT, events, clubs, societies, services, communications, governance, and more.

The Board voted to direct WUSA’s Executive Director to do a full review of our multi-layered Corporate Social Responsibility policy and then review the implementation of the CSR policy.

The Board explicitly asked the review to look at best practices and international organizations such as Amnesty International and the United Nations. The Board also instructed the review to use the feedback passed at the 2026 AMM along with the results of the 2024 referendum on the University’s investments and partnerships during the process.

We will keep WUSA members updated on the effects of updating and implementing the CSR policy.

We understand students may have concerns and encourage anyone with feedback to reach out to WUSA President Samir Sharma at pres@wusa.ca. We serve a diverse campus community, and with that diverse community comes a range of views on various issues. We support and respect all our members and strive to represent this diversity as accurately as possible. Student feedback plays a key role in shaping how we engage on issues that are most important to students.

Above all, we are deeply committed to the wellbeing of all our members and will continue to listen to and work with students from all backgrounds.

For students interested in additional support, WUSA offers resources like Empower Me, where you can connect with someone 24/7. Students can also reach out to Campus Wellness and Counselling Services through their website.
