SLC Marketplace Elevator Refurbishment: What You Need to Know 

The SLC Marketplace elevator is getting an upgrade!  

The SLC Marketplace elevator has been serving students for over 30 years now, but frequent breakdowns and service disruptions have affected accessibility across the building. To address these challenges and ensure a more reliable and accessible experience for everyone, WUSA advocated for an elevator replacement. As part of the refurbishment project, the elevator will be temporarily out of service starting October 26, 2026, with service expected to resume in Winter 2027. 

During this period, there will be alternate accessible routes available to different floors of the Student Life Centre (SLC). 

Getting Around the SLC During the Refurbishment: 

All floors remain accessible via stairways. Those who are able to use the stairs are encouraged to do so whenever possible, as this helps keep elevators available for those who rely on them. 

Here’s a breakdown of alternate routes to each floor, so you can choose the option that best meets your accessibility needs:  

Accessing the SLC lower level from the first floor (main level): 

1. Outside Route – Quickest Access to the Lower Level: Exit the SLC through the Flock Stop exit and turn right towards the Meter Parking Lot. Follow the signs to the SLC lower level entrance next to the Bike Centre entrance. 
2. Indoor Route – Accessible Ramp behind Chaska and the SLC service elevator: Take the ramp behind Chaska, then follow signs to the SLC service elevator and go down to the SLC lower level; use the same route to return.   [Walkthrough video coming soon]

Accessing the Second Floor:  

1. SLC/PAC Expansion elevator: Use the elevator from the first to the second floor. 
2. SLC/MC Bridge: enter SLC second floor through the MC Bridge.  
3. Accessible Ramp behind Chaska: Take the ramp behind Chaska all the way up to the second floor. 

Accessing the Third Floor: 

1. SLC/PAC Expansion elevator: Use the elevator from the first to the third floor.  
2. SLC/MC Bridge & SLC/PAC Expansion elevator: Enter the SLC second floor through the MC Bridge and take the SLC/PAC Expansion elevator to the third floor.  
3. Accessible Ramp behind Chaska & SLC/PAC Expansion elevator: Take the ramp behind Chaska to the second floor and take the SLC/PAC Elevator to the third floor.  

We recognize that adjusting to new routes may take some time, and we appreciate your patience while these improvements are underway. 

Accessing WUSA Admin Offices: 

Unfortunately, there is currently no alternate accessible route to the WUSA offices during the elevator refurbishment. If you need to meet with a specific staff member, we encourage you to contact them directly to arrange a meeting at an accessible location.
