December and January Board Meeting Recap
Hey all,
Hope your Winter 2024 term is off to a great start. We wanted to let you know about a few items that the Board of Directors discussed at the December and January Board meetings.
December Board Meeting:
- Changes to the board policy manual ensuring that Board of Directors are still able seek unpaid volunteer opportunities through WUSA without having to resign from the board.
- New hybrid format for the next Annual General Meeting to ensure that students unable to attend the meeting in person can attend online. This ensures that students who are on co-op or are out of the area for whatever reason still have a voice in their student society.
- Approval of the Committee Workplans outlines the committee’s plans for the rest of the governance year.
- Introduction of New Director Stories in which Directors take time at the start of the meeting to talk about what they are hearing from students.
- Changes to the terms of reference of the Academic Affairs Advisory Ad-hoc Committee (4AC).
- Discussion on WUSA’s current Governance Database and potential improvements for future years.
- Other General updates provided by President Rory Norris, Vice President Katie Traynor, and Executive Director Suzanne Burdett on ongoing projects and meetings.
January Board Meeting:
- Discussion on WUSA’s federal advocacy body, Undergraduates of Canadian Research-Intensive Universities (UCRU), and whether WUSA should consider applying to join the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) for the 2-year observer ship. The Board outlines what the expectations should be for whichever advocacy body the organization chooses to be a part of and what the membership should be gaining in terms of advocacy based on the future decision of which organization WUSA should be a part of.
- Other general updates provided by President Rory Norris, Vice President Katie Traynor, and Executive Director Suzanne Burdett on ongoing projects and meetings.
