Winners of the Beauty of Waterloo in Winter: Photo Contest

Sunlight filters through trees onto a snow-dusted field where several Canada geese forage, capturing the essence of Winter. A building is partially visible in the background, and the glow of the setting sun creates a golden atmosphere, embodying the Beauty of Waterloo perfect for a Photo Contest.

The theme for January 2024’s photo contest was Beauty of Waterloo in Winter”, and we want to thank everyone who submitted their photos. Though this winter season came with little snow, it has been lovely seeing the moments captured around Waterloo by our students.

Congratulations to Krishna Datty, who has won our 1st place prize of a $50 e-gift card. We had two runner ups- Sandeep Nath and Diya Renjan who both won a $20 e-gift card each.

Participants were asked to tell us the story behind their submissions, and here’s what our winner and runner-up had to say about their individual piece:

“All ten of these photos were taken during some of my first missions to explore the beauty of winter in Waterloo, through my lens. Growing up in the Middle East, I was always curious to see snow and frozen lakes. Coming here and experiencing these amazing views got me into photography!” – Krishna Datty

A dimly lit train station with platforms on either side. A passenger crosses between the tracks while others wait beside a stationary train, reflected in glass. Digital signage overhead displays route information. This evocative scene could easily be part of the Winter Photo Contest highlighting the beauty of Waterloo.

Although the winter may bring unprecedented weather conditions, you can still find opportunity to find the beauty in it all. Though I might hate driving in the snow, I will still go miles to tell my story through photography.” – Sandeep Nath

A snowy pathway leads through a park with barren trees on both sides. Footprints mark the path, and buildings are faintly visible in the background through falling snow. The winter scene is serene, capturing the beauty of Waterloo with a grey sky overhead—a perfect entry for the photo contest. Here’s the submission from our second runner-up, Diya Renjan.
