WUSA x VIA Rail Giveaway

Contest Period 

The Giveaway begins on September 14, 2026 at 8:00 AM EST and ends on September 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM EST (the “Contest Period”). 

Eligibility 

The giveaway is open to undergraduate students actively enrolled at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.  

Employees, representatives, mandatary or agents of VIA Rail Canada Inc., its affiliates or subsidiaries, and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter. 

WUSA employees, Board members, and their immediate family members are also not eligible. 

How to Enter 

No purchase is necessary to enter. 

To enter the Giveaway during the Contest Period, participants must: 

  1. Follow @savewithwusa on Instagram 
  2. Like the official contest post on @savewithwusa 
  3. Tag your friends. At least one (1) friend in the same comment 
  4. Claim the VIA Rail offer available on member.wusa.ca at any time prior to the end of the Contest Period 

Multiple entries are permitted; however, each comment must tag a different friend to qualify as an additional entry. 

By entering, participants agree to abide by the contest rules which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest. 

Entries 

Entries must be submitted through the official WUSA entry method described above. Entries submitted through any other method will not be accepted. 

Automated, robotic, programmed, fraudulent, or duplicate entries are prohibited and will be disqualified at the discretion of WUSA or the Sponsor. 

WUSA and the Sponsor reserve the right to verify the authenticity of entries and to disqualify any entrant who violates these Rules or attempts to tamper with the Giveaway process. 

Odds of Winning 

The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period. 

Prize and Prize Redemption 

Prizes:

  • One (1) $500 VIA Rail Travel Voucher 
  • One (1) $250 VIA Rail Travel Voucher 

The vouchers: 

  • Are redeemable only for eligible VIA Rail travel and services 
  • Are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash 
  • Must be used in accordance with VIA Rail’s terms and conditions 
  • Expire on January 20, 2027 

Any costs exceeding the voucher value are the sole responsibility of the Winner. The Sponsor is not responsible for additional expenses such as taxes, fees, upgrades, insurance, or changes after booking. 

Winner Selection and Notification 

Two (2) Winners will be selected by random draw within 5 business days of the giveaway closing from all eligible entries received during the giveaway period.  

The Winners will be contacted through direct message from the official Instagram page (@savewithwusa). 

To be declared a Winner, the selected entrant must: 

  • Respond within three (3) days of notification 
  • Provide their full name and University of Waterloo email address for verification 
  • Correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question 
  • Provide proof of eligibility if requested 

If a selected entrant does not respond within the required timeframe, fails to meet eligibility requirements, or incorrectly answers the skill-testing question, an alternate Winner may be selected at WUSA’s discretion. 

General Conditions 

  • The Prize must be accepted as awarded and is non-transferable. 
  • The Sponsor and WUSA reserve the right to refuse the Prize if there is suspicion of fraud or misuse of the entry system. 
  • Any conduct deemed inappropriate, abusive, or fraudulent may result in disqualification and exclusion from future WUSA giveaways. 
  • Each participant is eligible to win a maximum of one (1) prize. 
  • This promotion is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with, Instagram. 

Limitation of Liability 

By entering, participants release and hold harmless the Sponsor, WUSA, and their affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any liability, claims, or damages arising from participation in the Giveaway or acceptance or use of the Prize. 

The Winner is solely responsible for complying with all applicable travel regulations and VIA Rail terms and conditions. 

Privacy and Publicity 

Personal information collected from entrants will be used by WUSA solely for the purpose of administering the Giveaway and fulfilling the Prize, in accordance with WUSA’s Privacy Policy. 

By accepting a Prize, the Winner consents to the use of their name and city of residence for publicity purposes related to the Giveaway, without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. 

Right to Void, Terminate, or Modify 

The Sponsor and WUSA reserve the right, subject to applicable laws, to cancel, suspend, or modify the Giveaway or these Rules at any time without notice if circumstances beyond their control compromise the integrity of the Giveaway. 

Governing Law 

This Giveaway is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
