The Ontario provincial election is your opportunity to shape the future of our province and have a large impact on our university experience. Make your voice heard!
Why Should I Vote? 🤔❓
The provincial government makes decisions that impact key areas of our lives as university students, including:
- Education (tuition, funding, OSAP)
- Healthcare
- Infrastructure (public transit, road maintenance, construction)
- Economic Development (business growth, job creation, regional development)
Do your research! Learn about your local candidates and the political parties they represent. Use the Candidate Search from Elections Ontario to find out who’s running in your riding.
You are invited to our Candidate Town Hall on February 24, from 5-6 PM in the SLC Black and Gold Room. This is your chance to meet your candidates from Waterloo and Kitchener Centre!

Am I eligible to vote? 🗳️
You can vote if you meet all the following criteria:
- Are a Canadian citizen
- Are at least 18 years old on February 27
- Reside in Ontario
- Are registered to vote
How do I register? 📝
Check if you’re registered to vote here: Voter Registration. If you aren’t registered, you can add yourself to the Register at that link before February 17, or you can register in-person at your polling location on Election Day.

Voting on Election Day
Find your polling location through Elections Ontario by entering your postal code into the Voter Information Service.
Advance Voting or Voting by Mail
If you can’t vote on Election Day, you can vote early or by mail. Use the Voter Information Service to find your electoral district. From there, you’ll be able to access information about the candidates in your riding, voting early, and voting by mail!
I live away from home… what do I do?
If you’re studying away from your permanent address, but are still in Ontario you can:
- Vote in your home electoral district (if in Ontario)
- Vote in your school’s electoral district
Use the Voter Information Service to find your electoral district.
If you’re an eligible voter on a co-op or study term outside Ontario or Canada, you can vote by mail.

Use the Voter Information Service to find your polling location.
Students living on campus: Your polling station is likely in the Student Life Centre, but you can confirm through the Voter Information Service.
What do I need to bring? 📜
- Voter Information Card (if you received one) + a piece of ID with your name on it OR
- A piece of ID with both your name and home address on it
