Ensuring Student Voices Shape Policy: A Survey on Key Issues in Ontario’s Post-Secondary Education

Two students sit on the grass, discussing student voices in post-secondary education while using a laptop. Message bubbles float above them as they engage with the "Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association" logo nearby.

The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) is a student led organization that improves the quality of your post-secondary education and experience. To do so, it is imperative that OUSA receives and implements feedback from YOU – the students!

To ensure that students are represented and involved in policy decisions, OUSA forms a committee of elected student representatives from each member association, including the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA). These elected members advocated for what the study body wants – including accessibility, affordability, quality of undergraduate experience, and more.

Twice a year, members of OUSA come together to encourage active discourse that will shape policy and legislation for the upcoming years. These policies continuously form the basis for the work that OUSA does. These decisions are made BY students and FOR students, ensuring that OUSA focuses on the issues that matter most to undergraduates.

Currently, OUSA is updating their stance on two key issues; Tech-Enabled Learning, and Comprehensive Access Strategy. Tech-Enabled Learning will focus on perceptions of AI, access to technology, resource accessibility, and open educational resources. On the other hand, Comprehensive Access Strategy places emphasis on access to information about post-secondary during high school/before entering university, awareness of scholarships/bursaries when applying for post-secondary, identity and disability-based barriers to accessing university, and more.

To ensure that your voice is heard regarding these important issues, make sure to fill out the survey by December 13th, 2024. Once you have filled out the survey, you will be automatically entered into win one of six $15 Uber Eats gift cards OR one of seven $15 Starbucks gift cards. Students will be required to provide quality answers for 70% of the questions to be eligible for the gift card draw.
