Winners of the May 2024 Photo Contest Theme: Let’s Go Welcome Week

A young woman stands against a cloudy backdrop, smiling and holding a sign that reads, "I cry a lot, but I am so productive." She is wearing a light pink shirt, a black-and-white striped skirt, and has a black crossbody bag. This candid shot could be one of the standout entries for the May 2024 Photo Contest.

The theme for May 2024’s photo contest was “Let’s Go Welcome Week”, and we want to thank everyone who submitted their photos.

Congratulations to Matylda Schwartz and Jerry Zhao, who have won 1st place prize of a WUSA tote bag.

Participants were asked to tell us the story behind their submissions, and here’s what our winners had to say about their individual piece:

“I am a third-year architecture student at the Cambridge campus, and I am here in Waterloo for a coop term. I’ve always wanted the “main campus experience” so I am so excited to get to see all of the events happening and the vibrant student life! I attended the bubble tea thrift event, the student life fair and club fair, and the Taylor swift party which were all super cool and a blast! I really appreciate all of these initiatives done by students and faculty, and it was all an amazing experience for me as these are things we do not get to experience back in Cambridge. So, I wanted to share some photos and enter! Also, the geese here are super cool, I know all the students say to beware, but I just can’t help but stop and admire.” – Matylda Schwartz

“Golden hours on campus.” – Jerry Zhao
