At the University of Waterloo, a range of dedicated offices provide essential support and resources for students impacted by sexual violence. Whether you need immediate assistance or ongoing support, these services are here for you. Let’s explore the key support offices on campus and how they can help you!

1. Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO)

SVPRO provides trauma-informed support to anyone impacted by sexual violence, whether you’re a survivor, bystander, or someone supporting another person. They offer personalized consultations, emotional support, and referrals, and they work closely with campus and community resources to assist you.

  • Location: Commissary Building (near Davis Centre and ION Station)

Important Note: For immediate crisis support, contact the Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) of Waterloo Region at 519-741-8633 (available 24/7).

2. Emergency Helplines (Red Poles with Blue Buttons)

The University has 15 helplines placed near residences and parking lots for immediate assistance. Pressing the button on a red pole connects you directly with an officer who will stay on with you until help arrives.

3. Campus Security

Campus Security provides a 24/7 safety presence on campus, responding to emergencies and coordinating with Waterloo Regional Police. They offer a victim services room for privacy and connection to services like IMPACT counseling, available on specific days.

  • Location: Commissary Building, Ring Road

4. Health Services

The Health Services Building provides a wide range of medical support, including physical and mental health care. Whether you’re dealing with a health concern or need access to counselling services, the team of doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals is ready to help.

  • Location: Across the bridge from the Student Life Centre

5. Counselling Services

For emotional support and mental health care, Counselling Services offers individual counselling, group therapy, and specialized support for Black, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQIA+ students. The service is confidential and can connect you to faith-based groups or healing spaces if needed.

  • Location: Needles Hall, 2nd Floor

6. Turnkey Desk

Located in the Great Hall of the Student Life Centre, the Turnkey Desk is your 24/7, go-to spot for general information and assistance. Whether you need first aid, directions, or a referral to other resources, Turnkey is a great place to start when you’re not sure where to turn.
