WUSA

Primary Purpose

 

Bartenders are responsible for delivering efficient, accurate, and responsible alcohol and beverage service across The Bomber’s daytime service model and late-night events. They uphold AGCO regulations, Smart Serve standards, and WUSA policies to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for patrons while ensuring compliance and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities

·        Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks efficiently in both daytime and high-volume nightclub settings.

·        Verify customer age and sobriety; refuse service when required by law or policy.

·        Follow all AGCO guidelines on responsible alcohol service, including intoxication prevention.

·        Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately, reconciling daily sales.

·        Maintain bar cleanliness, stock rotation, and restocking of supplies during and after shifts.

·        Ensure compliance with portion control, recipe standards, and cost targets.

·        Assist with event setups, including preparing specialty drink menus for DJs or themed nights.

·        Collaborate with security and door staff to report unsafe behaviors or incidents.

·        Uphold WUSA’s values of inclusivity, respect, and student-centered service.

 

Compliance & Safety Duties

·        Maintain valid Smart Serve certification at all times.

·        Ensure all service aligns with the Liquor License Act of Ontario and AGCO rules.

·        Report any compliance breaches (e.g., false IDs, overservice) to management immediately.

·        Participate in mandatory staff safety meetings, training, and alcohol service workshops.

 

Required Qualifications

·        Smart Serve Certification (Ontario) – required.

·        Minimum 1 year bartending, mixology, or fast-paced food service experience.

·        Cash handling and POS experience preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

·        Strong customer service and communication skills.

·        Ability to multitask and thrive under pressure in high-volume environments.

·        Knowledge of cocktail preparation, draft systems, and bar equipment.

 

Working Conditions

·        Mix of daytime service and high-volume late-night nightclub shifts.

·        Extended standing, repetitive motions, and fast-paced work.

·        Exposure to loud music, dim/strobe lighting, and large crowds.
