MATES

Key Accountabilities 
– Revise and lead a 2-day Core Training for new and returning Volunteers and Executives
– Identify and promote community and campus training opportunities to MATES Volunteers (e.g., send emails and post to – – Microsoft Teams to encourage training sign-up)
– Communicate with various groups on campus to organize additional training sessions for MATES volunteers
– Keep track of MATES Volunteers’ training hours and completion of action items
– Get in touch with MATES Volunteers who miss training (e.g. remind them of commitment to attend training)
– Coordinate weekly educational presentations for MATES Volunteers
– Attend weekly exec meetings
– Report directly to the MATES Coordinators
– Manage MATES Training email

Requirements for the role:  
– Available to update and revise training materials the week before classes begin
– Previous experience as a Peer Support Volunteer required
– Passion for mental health awareness, reducing stigma for mental illness and a strong proponent of peer support
– Previous training in Mental Health First Aid, SafeTALK, UWaterloo Student Leadership Training, Peer Mentorship
– Ability to foster teamwork, work cooperatively and efficiently with others
– Must be reliable and dependable
– Strong organizational and research skills required
