Bike Centre

Service Description: The Bike Centre is a do-it-yourself style bike shop located in the Student Life Centre. We are a resource for the Waterloo community, providing tools and work space to do bike repairs. Customers pay $1 an hour to use our shop. We also rent out bikes on a termly basis, and collect abandoned bikes on campus to be fixed up and sold at our termly bike auction. We are completely run by volunteers, and would love to have you join our team! Our shop is freshly renovated and a great place to hang out. No experience necessary.

Department: Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) student-run service
Reports to: Manager(s) – UW Bike Centre
Effective date: Spring 2024
Role Description: The Volunteers are primarily responsible for the Bike Centre’s daily operations. This includes being present in the Centre for shifts, and facilitate any purchase requests from customers.
Weekly Time Commitment: 2-3 hours

Key Accountabilities: 
Hold a weekly two-hour shift in the Bike Centre
Greet customers and direct them to address their problem
Advise and assist with basic bike repair (not a must, we will train you and help you build your skills!)
Ensure customers put away tools and the shop is kept clean
Keep track of supplies and notify the coordinator when they are running low
Help run events and promotions
Requirements for the role:
Must be an undergraduate student or WUSA member (i.e. someone who pays WUSA fees)
Good communication skills

Training Requirements: 
New volunteers will be required to attend training during the first few weeks of the term (date TBD).
