Spotlight on Safety: Stay Safe While Commuting to Campus
On November 25, 2024, CityNews Kitchener reported on a report delivered to the City of Waterloo that highlighted the most dangerous intersections for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. The full article is available to read on the NewsCity Kitchener Website.
Many of these intersections are located around the University of Waterloo, and are used by hundreds of students daily as they travel to and from class. This year WUSA’s Research Team released results from a Representative Survey Platform (RSP) Survey pertaining to students’ safety. In the responses to the survey, some students identified pedestrian-related car accidents as an area of concern. The full report can be found on the Reseach and Consultation Webpage.
WUSA’s Advocacy department and Vice President represent student interests to the City of Waterloo. Vice President Arya Razmjoo states that this is something that will be discussed with his counterparts within the local city government and that they will work to ensure the safety of students traveling to and from campus.
For everyone commuting to campus – whether you drive, take transit, or walk, stay alert about the vehicles and environment around you, keep an eye on the weather, and to be careful when it comes to ice conditions. During this winter term this is particularly important, given the effect that winter weather and conditions can have.
If you are looking for support and resources for cycling in Waterloo, look no further than the WUSA Bike Centre, located in the SLC. They support students with repairs, rentals, parts, and other supports. Check out the Bike Centre webpage for more information.
Stay safe this term!
