Update on the SLC Lounge Expansion

Modern two-story building with large glass windows and outdoor seating, surrounded by grass and a few trees—a perfect spot to enjoy the SLC Lounge expansion.

Big changes are coming soon to the SLC Student Lounge and WUSA’s iconic former Bombshelter Pub space is undergoing big changes. This new lounge will be a light and bright multi-level space for students to relax, refresh, reconnect, and refuel. With more flexible social spaces, a new bar and restaurant (Bomber return?), and a second floor with bookable options to host private meetings and special events, it is sure to be a gathering hub for many years to come. Still located in the SLC, the lounge will provide students with a place to gather, study, and build community – keeping accessibility and sustainability at the forefront.

These exciting renovations will allow us to transform this space, ensuring it meets the needs of our students, and brings forward a modern, social space that we can all be proud of.

After hearing from many students, along with student leaders, it became clear that students are looking for spaces where they can relax and socialize in a setting that doesn’t feel like school.

The new lounge will be exactly that! The proposed re-engineered space will be designed to welcome our students, at any time of the day, regardless of group size. The space will promote community, encourage social engagements and increase wellness.

Here are just a few of the exciting, anticipated features:

  • Accessibility will be a top priority; an interior elevator will be installed at the main entrance
  • Modern and sustainable waste disposal services, including elements of composting and garden/growth for the restaurant
  • Spaces for members to bring heat up their own food, eat, and rinse/wash their reusable containers
  • Places for members to connect to workstations, charge their devices, print/copy/scan documents
  • Modern furniture fixtures that promote wellness and relaxation
  • And so much more!

We look forward to relaxing, refreshing, reconnecting, and refuelling in our new space over a delicious cup of coffee and some great company.
