REPORTS TO: Chief Returning Officer (CRO)
TERM LENGTH: June 01, 2025 – April 30, 2026
JOB CATEGORY: Part-Time Contract
AVAILABILITY: Approximately 5 – 10 Hours/Week for 10-20 Weeks; Must be Available to Work at Least 1 Work Weekday Between the Hours of 9am-5pm

JOB DESCRIPTION: 
The Electoral and Referenda Officer (ERO) will be responsible for upholding WUSA’s Elections and Referenda procedures and other relevant bylaws, policies, and procedures of the corporation conducive to equitable and efficient elections and referenda.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 

General Responsibilities

  • Being an authority on interpretations of the Federation of Students Elections Referenda Procedures, subject to the policies and by-laws of the Federation of Students/WUSA, and interpretations and rulings of the Chief Returning Officer (CRO)
  • Determining whether a candidate, team of candidates or campaign committee has violated the Election & Referenda Procedures
  • Ensuring that candidates, campaign teams, and referendum committees are informed and aware of these procedures, and any other by-laws, policies, and procedures, as it pertains to Elections & Referenda
  • Supporting the CRO with running any All-Candidates Meetings in pursuit of the above.

Responsibilities During Elections

  • Adjudicating allegations of misconduct or breach of any provision provided in the Elections Referenda Procedure
  • Assessing penalties against candidates, campaign teams, or referendum committees found to have been acting in violation of any portion of the procedures
  • Assisting the CRO in settling, recording, and publishing all allegations and disputes between candidates and teams.

Responsibilities After Elections Period

  • Enforcing reporting of and verifying all campaign spending by all candidates, campaign teams, and referendum committees and reporting the these to the CRO
  • Assessing Fair Market Value, determining campaign reimbursements, and ensuring compliance of Section 6 of the Elections & Referenda Procedures: Budgets & Spending Limits
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the CRO and/or the ERC.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience public speaking
  • Experience in promotions is an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite required
  • Knowledge of WUSA’s policies and procedures is an asset.

*Note: Under no circumstances shall any ERO be a candidate for an active Election or By-election, join a Referendum committee, endorse, or campaign on behalf of any candidate, campaign team or referendum position.
