Exhibit Highlights:
The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century – Celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop through contemporary art and fashion! 🎤🌍 Featuring artists like Derrick Adams, John Edmonds, Deana Lawson, and Hank Willis Thomas, this exhibit explores hip-hop’s global impact on visual culture through painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia installations.
Kenojuak Ashevak: Highlights from the Dr. Ronald M. Haynes Collection – Explore 14 iconic prints by the “grandmother of Inuit art,” including The Woman Who Lives in the Sun. Curated by Renée van der Avoird, these works are promised gifts to the AGO.
Sonia Boyce: Feeling Her Way – An immersive installation by the 2022 Golden Lion winner at the Venice Biennale. Featuring vocal performances by Jacqui Dankworth, Poppy Ajudha, Sofia Jernberg, and Tanita Tikaram, this exhibit highlights Black British female musicians through video, sculpture, and music memorabilia.
Sarindar Dhaliwal – Explore the work of this multidisciplinary artist whose pieces address migration, colonialism, and trauma. This installation includes five works from the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and the Canada Council Art Bank.
Letendre/Morrisseau – Celebrate the vibrant works of Rita Letendre and Norval Morrisseau. Letendre’s dynamic pieces reflect her quest for connection, while Morrisseau’s Man Changing into Thunderbird (1977) explores Anishinaabe transformation.
Critical Views: Recent Acquisitions – A dynamic showcase of new works from six contemporary artists, exploring histories, contested identities, and cultural perspectives from Africa and its diasporas.
