Meet our facilitators:
Maryam Mohiuddin Ahmed is a former human rights lawyer and serial social entrepreneur with a PhD in Sustainability Management from the University of Waterloo. Her work centers on decolonizing systems change and promoting alternative ways of knowing and being. Maryamโs vast experience includes co-founding the Social Innovation Lab and Daftarkhwan, leading peace-building initiatives, and working as a Senior Fellow at Social Innovation Canada. She also teaches at the University of Waterloo and OCAD University, focusing on human rights law and social innovation.
Shana MacDonald is the O’Donovan Chair of Communication and Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo. Her research explores feminist and queer activism within social and digital media, and she is the author of The Art of Memes in Feminist Digital Culture. Shana brings a unique lens to the intersection of feminism, media, and activism, offering valuable insights into the ways digital culture shapes womenโs experiences.
Samantha Fowler (she/her) is the Disability Inclusion Coordinator at the University of Waterloo and a PhD student studying at the intersections of digital rhetoric, critical disability studies, and science communication. As a Co-Founder of the STEM With Disabilities project and Co-Lead of the Ontario Summit for Students with Disabilities, Samantha is deeply invested in promoting accessibility and inclusivity, drawing from her personal experience as a disabled and neurodivergent individual.
Kim Buchanan is a legal scholar and advocate for justice at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and disability, focusing on criminal legal systems and higher education. As the Interim Director of Equity and Anti-Racism at the Office of EDI-R, Kimโs work is at the forefront of advocating for systemic change that ensures equity and justice for marginalized communities.
