GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

All Winter Welcome Week Coordinators are accountable to the Special Events Coordinator and the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) - previously the Federation of Students.

SCOPE AND NATURE

Winter Welcome Week is an annual week-long event in the Winter term that is intended to welcome new and returning students to campus for the Winter term. Welcome Week Coordinators will need to be flexible and work closely with and lead others. This will require clear analytical thinking and excellent interpersonal skills with a desire for implementing on campus events. Successful candidates will be positive role models for their peers both personally and academically.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be knowledgeable about Winter Welcome Week events
  • Attend weekly team meetings and provide meaningful insight where needed
  • Motivate, encourage, and support event team members, other coordinators, and all volunteers
  • Assist with the set up and take down of events throughout the week
  • Organize and help lead ice breakers at the mandatory Volunteer Training
  • Develop a volunteer appreciation to celebrate the success of the team
  • Other duties as assigned by the Special Events Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Must be organized, dependable, and detail oriented. Punctuality is key
  • Willingness to take initiative and assert oneself in different situations
  • Experience as a Welcome Week Volunteer is an asset
  • Able to lift event set up material; up to 20 pounds
  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student (including co-op) for the duration of the position

MANDATORY DATES

  • Welcome Week Prep: meetings during the week of January 6th-10th; must be able to attend Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday January 8th (4:00-6:30 committment) 
  • Winter Welcome Week Events: Monday January 13th - Friday January 17th
