Fall 2019 Welcome Week Coordinator


All Fall Welcome Week Coordinators are accountable to the Special Events Coordinator and the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) - previously the Federation of Students.


Fall Welcome Week is an annual week-long event in the Fall term that is intended to welcome new and returning students to campus for the Fall term. Welcome Week Coordinators will need to be flexible and work closely with and lead others. This will require clear analytical thinking and excellent interpersonal skills with a desire for implementing on campus events. Successful candidates will be positive role models for their peers both personally and academically.


  • Be knowledgeable about Fall Welcome Week events
  • Attend weekly team meetings and provide meaningful insight where needed
  • Brainstorm new initiatives and methods to execute Welcome Week events
  • Motivate, encourage, and support event team members, other coordinators, and all volunteers
  • Assist with the set up and take down of events throughout the week
  • Organize and help lead ice breakers at the mandatory Volunteer Training
  • Develop a volunteer appreciation to celebrate the success of the team
  • Other duties as assigned by the Special Events Coordinator


  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Must be organized, dependable, and detail oriented. Punctuality is key
  • Willingness to take initiative and assert oneself in different situations
  • Experience as a Welcome Week Volunteer is an asset
  • Able to lift event set up material; up to 20 pounds
  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student (including co-op) for the duration of the position


  • Welcome Week Prep: meetings during the last week of August and first week of September
  • Fall Welcome Week Events: Monday September 9th – Friday September 13th
