Bike Centre Coordinator (2 Term Contract – Spring 2021 & Fall 2021)

Service Description: The Bike Centre is a do-it-yourself style bike shop located in the Student Life Centre. We are a resource for the Waterloo community, providing a low cost option to utilize our tools and work space to do bike repairs. The Centre also repairs abandoned bikes which are re-sold at auction and we have a fleet of rental bikes available for Fall and Spring terms.

Department: Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) Student-Run Service
Reports to: WUSA Services Manager
Weekly Hours: Up to 15/Hrs per week
Rate: $16.00 /hr
Effective date: May 3rd, 2021
End Date: December 23rd, 2021

Role Description: This position will be managing the day to day operations of the Bike Centre. This includes bicycle repair and maintenance, point of sale and finances, human resources, online and social media support, scheduling and planning, and overall care and cleanliness of the Centre. It also includes prompt communication with the executive team and the volunteers.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Must provide training to all volunteers and executives within the first 2 weeks of classes
  • Responsible for the overall management of the Bike Centre
  • Financial management including Point of Sale and budgeting
  • Management of the physical space, maintenance and purchasing of equipment
  • Acting as supervisor to the executives and volunteers
  • Work with the WUSA marketing department to ensure proper promotion of the Bike Centre and all related events and activities
  • Ensuring the Bike Centre is an inclusive and accessible space
  • Work with other WUSA Services and Clubs to create engaging events
  • Management of the bike auction and bike sales
  • Attend a bi-weekly meeting with the Services Manager and must submit an end of term report in accordance with the WUSA policies and procedures
  • Submit hours tracking and payroll information as required
     

Requirements and assets for the role:

  • Previous experience repairing and maintaining bicycles and the ability to train others is required
  • Previous experience within the WUSA Bike Centre is strongly preferred
  • Must be a current undergraduate student at the University of Waterloo and enrolled in the term(s) indicated
  • Must be able to be physically on campus during the term(s) as needed
  • Must be committed to fulfilling the required hours to ensure quality of service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team, engage and motivate
  • Able to make timely decisions, independently and with a group
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Knowledge of budgeting and finance as well as cash-handling skills
  • Knowledge of volunteering and administration
  • Strong knowledge of social media

Training Requirements:

  • New Coordinators required to virtually attend training with WUSA Services Manager on May 3rd (time TBD) and May 4th (time TBD)
  • Returning Coordinators required to virtually attend training with WUSA Services Manager on May 4th (time TBD) only.
