In a press conference held Wednesday, the Government of Ontario confirmed that the provincial portion of student loans would see a suspension similar to that of the federal government. This action will mean affordability through this crisis to millions of Ontarians, giving them more spending flexibility at a time when many of them may face difficulties with income.

This fiscal action shows compassion and swift leadership from the provincial government, and we thank the Premier and all Ministers involved in making this decision.

WUSA, through its partners at the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA), asked for debt relief earlier this week at the same time that it requested relief on the federal portion from the federal government. This support is notable because it will likely affect well over a hundred thousand students across Ontario graduating next month.

WUSA is proud to be able to provide advocacy for students and our recent graduates around student aid on both the federal and provincial level, enabled by our provincial advocacy fee, which funds our work and OUSA’s. We look forward to further advocacy actions as we identify opportunities.
