Today, one day after requesting that the Canadian government suspend student loan payments, Justin Trudeau announced in a press conference that an interest-free, 6-month suspension of student loan payments will begin at the end of this month.

WUSA applauds this support of new graduates and those out of work from having to decide between spending on necessities and making interest payments. This relief will help Canada’s economy and its people, and we thank the Canadian government for its swift action.

WUSA will continue to advocate to the provincial government to take the same steps and will continue the conversation with both the federal and provincial government.

This advocacy was made possible by student contributions to WUSA through the government advocacy fee, and through partnership with our federal advocacy partners at the Undergraduates of Canadian Research-Intensive Universities, and our partner student associations at Brock, Laurentian, Laurier and Trent.
