A spring term unlike any other!
With COVID-19 keeping us from campus, we are about to begin a spring term unlike any other. I know from reading our student survey results that many of you are apprehensive about what an online term might look like. We hear you and we appreciate your honesty. Your feedback has already helped us to better understand the ways you want us to support you through this term, and into the future. It was our recent recommendations to the government, based on what we heard from students, that helped secure the largest financial aid package for students in Canada’s history!
This recent milestone is advocacy in action.
While none of us could have anticipated our current reality, there’s one thing you can continue to rely on from your student association:
We are still here, and we’ve still got your back.
Before I share more on where you can find us online, I wanted to introduce myself – I’m Abbie, your new WUSA President. When we’re back on campus, I hope you’ll say hi! In the meantime, you’re welcome to email me. I would love to hear more about where you’re finding success while studying online and what some of your challenges are.
Below are services we believe can help support you through an online term:
Prioritize your mental health
This is a challenging time for all of us; if you need someone to talk to, you’re not alone. Connect with a trained counsellor through Empower Me, available to students 24/7.
Support for students, from students
These student-run services are here for you, no matter where you are. Many are offering peer support via Skype and will be connecting via social through contests, games and fun activities!
Join our team
We may be working from home, but there are still opportunities to work or volunteer part-time. We’re even looking ahead to fall term and could use more Orientation leaders!
Check out our virtual events
From Trivia Tuesdays, to virtual dance lessons and workshops, we’ve got a variety of events this term. Vote for your favourite act in our WUSA’s Got Talent contest before May 10!
Something for everyone
Update your social calendar and stay connected to student life! Find your passion in our Clubs & Societies Community Facebook group.
Lastly, you may have heard The Bomber is getting a “space-lift.” We’re hoping you can help us keep things moving by filling out our Lounge Space Survey for your chance to win a $200 Amazon gift card. Your feedback will help turn this space into the best option for you!
As we navigate this ‘new normal’ and prepare for the virtual classroom, we want you to know, we’ve got you – both in and outside of it. On behalf of my team, I’m wishing everyone a safe and successful spring term.
