On Sunday, November 17, 2019, the FedBus returning to Waterloo from Markham pulled over on the side of the highway, after sparks flew from the rear brakes. Folllowing procedure, the bus driver temporarily evacuated students while he performed a preliminary inspection. When it was determined that the bus was safe, students were permitted back on to await alternative transit. The following email was sent to students impacted by the Markham to Waterloo FedBus break down.

To those impacted by the FedBus break down,

We would first like to extend our sincere apologies to those affected by the break down of the FedBus returning to Waterloo from Markham, this past weekend. We are aware this was a tremendous inconvenience and will be offering those affected both a refund and a free round-trip ticket for a future trip.

If you were on this bus, please email me directly at scott.pearson@uwaterloo.ca to claim this reimbursement. Please include a picture of the front and back of your WatCard, as well as your WatIAM, so the refund can be applied directly to your card.

Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association prioritizes student safety and would like to remind all passengers and students at large, that our buses are regularly maintained through our contracted provider and undergo daily circle checks. Despite that precaution, unforeseen circumstances and failures can occur.

FedBus offers Waterloo students a safe and affordable transit option and will continue to prioritize this in our service moving forward.

We thank you for your patience and for your continued ridership,
