RAISE
The Advocacy Director is responsible for organizing events, services, and campaigns related to advocacy that strive for equity and racialized students’ interests within and for the community of students at UWaterloo
Roles and responsibilities include:
Advocate against racism and xenophobia to community and university stakeholders
Work with the external director to build and maintain relationships with relevant campus groups regarding advocacy issues
Work with the education director to create action responses (e.g. vigils) in a timely manner to current university and world events related to race and justice – be quick-witted and flexible, in response to changing news and political climate
Seek out new advocacy initiatives for RAISE to be involved with
Must be knowledgeable and passionate about issues affecting racialized students and their intersections
Be able to articulately and concisely communicate RAISE’s position in regards to racialized issues.
Able to initiate and pursue long-term projects, and the ability to act with discretion in delicate situations.
Strong writing skills (funding proposals, media statements) are an asset
Mediate discussions including gaining knowledge on new topics, resolving conflict to maintain safe space, answering complex questions
