MATES
Key Accountabilities:
– Recruit MATES Volunteers for event involvement
– Schedule promotion booths to ensure MATES has a consistent presence on campus (if applicable)
– Collaborate with Advocacy and Communications Directors to establish and implement advocacy initiatives
– Act as a point of contact for groups that would like to run events with MATES
– Plan and run weekly, monthly, and/or one-time events for UW undergraduate students that are consistent with the MATES mission statement
– Keep track of MATES volunteers’ hours attending promotional events (if applicable)
– Manage MATES events email
– Submit pre-event forms three weeks in advance of an event, and submit event summary forms in a timely manner after events
Requirements for the role:
– Passion for mental health awareness, reducing stigma for mental illness and a strong proponent of peer support
– Strong leadership and organizational skills
– Ability to foster teamwork, work cooperatively and effectively with others
– Must be reliable and dependable
– Ability to brainstorm and implement both asynchronous and synchronous events
– Previous training in Mental Health First Aid, SafeTALK, UWaterloo Student Leadership Training, Foundational Training for Peer Leaders or other similar training is an asset
– Ability to accomplish projects and daily tasks with little supervision
– Experience being a Peer Support Volunteer with MATES or other similar programs is an asset
– Experience in a leadership role is an asset
