Key Accountabilities: 
– Promote MATES to faculty, staff and other groups and services on campus
– Collaborate with Events and Communications Directors to establish and implement advocacy initiatives
– Assist the Events Director(s) with promotions, speaking engagements, and booths (if applicable)
– Facilitate class visits and promotions (if applicable)
– Attend weekly exec meetings
– Keep track of MATES volunteers’ hours attending advocacy related events (if applicable)
– Manage MATES Advocacy email
– Manage and create content for the MATES Advocacy Microsoft Teams group

Requirements for the role: 
– Passion for mental health awareness, reducing stigma for mental illness and a strong proponent of peer support
– Strong leadership skills
– Ability to foster teamwork, work cooperatively and effectively with others
– Must be reliable and dependable
– Personable and able to develop a positive rapport with other students and members of other organizations
– Previous training in Mental Health First Aid, SafeTALK, UWaterloo Student Leadership Training, Foundational Training for Peer Leaders or other similar training is an asset
– Ability to accomplish projects and daily tasks with little supervision
– Experience being a Peer Support Volunteer with MATES or other similar programs is an asset
