Guy Brodsky

Program: School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability
Current year of study: 2BEnvironment candidate Guy Brodsky

Previous applicable involvement with WUSA/Waterloo:

  • Exec member of inaugural uwEnergyHacks with UW Energy Network S19
  • Exec member of UW Energy Network & EnergyHacks F19
  • member of the WESEF Board of Directors S19 & F19

Top three platform points:

  1. Make it easier to transition towards a more efficient & sustainable campus energy system
  2. Get more people involved in WESEF & school affairs
  3. Make it easier to divest from fossil fuels

Reason why someone should vote for you in 100 words or less:
Primarily, I will use my position on the Student's cCouncil to actively pursue the establishment of a UW Green Revolving Fund - which essentially invests in cost & energy-saving retrofit projects and continually redirects the cost-savings towards more sustainable projects. I believe its time for our school to realize that there is also an economic case for sustainability, as shown by numerous pension funds & banks gradually divesting & moving away from stranded carbon assets and fossil fuels!

Reason why someone should vote for you in 100 words or less:
As a first year student running to be your WUSA Environment Student Councillor Representative I recognize the importance to provide other students alike with opportunities to voice their opinions and make a change. We are in a time where we need young individuals to make a shift towards sustainable and healthy living. In my opinion, this change is going to start right in the heart of UW with the collaboration and teamwork of staff and students. With the start of a small change to daily routines, we are already moving one step forward in the right direction!

“Your voice, your choice”. Elections are about choices. A choice to have a representative that is strong, trustworthy and an active listener. That is why I would like the pleasure to be your Student Councillor Representative. Not only will I represent students equally, but I will also create a platform where they are able to voice their opinions and issues without any concerns. Additionally, I will create opportunities for students to represent their ideas/projects by collaborating with faculties or clubs to secure funding. To create a campus that is efficient, and sustainable by incorporating small interactive indoor green spaces.
