Students are invited to submit performance proposals for the first Waterloo @ the Intersections event.

Hosted in partnership between the Student Success Office (SSO), Waterloo Undergraduate Student Union, Graduate Student Union and Athletics and Recreation, Waterloo @ the Intersections aims to empower participants to share their thoughts on a specified topic in the format of their choice, for 10 minutes on stage. The first Waterloo @ the Intersections event will focus on students’ experiences of belonging – or lack thereof – in our community. It will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.

According to Jazz Fitzgerald, Student Equity and Community manager in the SSO, the pandemic caused a shift in how students have been able to gather and feel like they belong. “The Student Equity and Community team, along with the entirety of the SSO, wants to help create spaces where community and belonging can flourish. We believe that an event like this is one that supports this co-creation of community and belonging; and we are so grateful to be in collaboration with others to bring this space to fruition.”

Student submissions can include, but are not limited to:

  • poetry reading,
  • performance of dance or song,
  • a short keynote or personal narrative, and more.

Performance proposals will be accepted via online submission until 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2023. The first 50 applicants will receive $20 on their Watcard in recognition of their efforts, with six students chosen for the event.
